The steps outside a busy shopping centre in Bristol didn’t comply with current building and DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) regulations and were causing issues for the visually impaired who couldn’t tell the difference between each step when walking down them as the steps were all the same colour / material.
We applied a visually contrasting, slip resistant coating to the front edge of the steps while the centre was open and each set of steps was back in use within 2 hours of starting.
The steps are now clearly identifiable, slip resistant and comply with the current regulations.
