One of our regular clients contacted us to help them investigate reports of slip incidents on their new staff car park.

Their staff had reported that the concrete surface in the car park was very slippery when wet.

The car park was only a few months old and was a new modular designed system from Germany, so everyone assumed that the reports must be a mistake and that the surface was fully compliant with the UK regulations.

We carried out tests in several areas using a British Standard Pendulum machine and quickly found that the areas where there was little or no traffic were passing the tests in wet and dry conditions but in high traffic, high friction areas at the top and bottom of the ramps etc. where the car tyres were inflicting more directional force, the tests were returning a high risk of slips / skids in these areas.

It seems as though the surface is not fit for purpose and our client is now in talks with the manufacturers and suppliers to try and resolve this issue.
